Karen Walthall

Board Secretary

Karen loves God! She accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was only 9-years old. For Karen, He Lord has been her constant companion, friend, and Lord since those early days. She was married for 23 years, divorced in 2005, had three children who are all married now, and has been blessed with four grandchildren. She loves to laugh, finds joy in the small treasures of life, and relishes traveling whenever and wherever she can. At 40-years old, she began her journey in education. She taught 4th-grade Math, Science and Social Studies for ten years, served as an Assistant Principal for three more, and finally, worked as the Principal for Barrett Elementary in Crosby for the past ten years. In the months since her retirement last June, she has enjoyed amazing trips with family and friends to the beach, Colorado and London. In July, she went on a mission trip with NEHBC to Paris, and in early October, traveled to the Dominican Republic with Both Ends Believing...a non-profit company dedicated to streamlining the adoption process/paperwork for displaced children in third-world countries. As far as her church home, she raised her children, served, and attended First Baptist in Crosby for over 30 years. There, she taught 1st-grade Sunday School for 13 years and co-led a Women’s Sunday School class for another 10 years. Awanas, VBS and service on the Women’s Ministry team were also a part of her time there. In June of 2019, Karen began attending NEHBC. Initially, she served as a “greeter;” but eventually became a co-director in one of the LifeGroups. She loves working with the Scholars community!
