Debbie Moore

Mrs. Moore shares this personal story, “There are no Deaf in our family. I have loved sign language since I was about 3 years old. We had a neighbor who was Deaf, and I was able to understand him and was fascinated by his world. We moved from Pasadena where no Deaf lived near me, but my parents kept me interested in the language. I married my husband 7 years later, met a Deaf girl, and my husband encouraged me to take classes to further my knowledge.

I started my career in Humble ISD. There I worked for 20 years and then moved on to Lonestar College where I taught sign language, Deaf culture, and Deaf community. I also interpreted for the Deaf employees, students and other Deaf people who came into the school.

I retired from Lonestar and taught interpreting on the side. I currently interpret sermons on Sunday mornings at Woodridge Baptist Church. I can’t wait to get started teaching at The Scholars Connection!”
