  • "STEM" stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The aim of a STEM class is to integrate concepts from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into a cohesive learning experience that emphasizes the connections between these fields. A STEM class is not intended to replace traditional math and science classes, but rather to complement and enhance them.

In this class, students will work on projects such as building a lighthouse, DNA module, rocket lift, solar oven, and cleaning up oil spills. They use their knowledge of mathematics and science to understand the principles behind these tasks, technology to simulate or model their designs, and engineering practices to actually build and test their ideas. This kind of learning is very hands-on and project-based, which helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Mrs. Argueta will also explore digital literacy and technology integration with her students. They will learn to use programs such as Canva for creative projects, enhancing their ability to visually present scientific data and concepts. Furthermore, they will delve into basic Google Suite tools, allowing students to work together effectively on projects and presentations. These digital skills are rounded out with typing and fundamental Microsoft Office training, ensuring our students are receiving a well-prepared introduction to the digital demands of the future.

Many of the fastest-growing job fields require a strong foundation in these areas, so by participating in STEM programs, students gain valuable skills that will help them no matter what career path they choose. This class is designed to be engaging and interesting, encouraging a lifelong love of learning in these important areas.
